The North Nevada Rally needs YOU!

Whether you're a rally enthusiast or former competitor, we would like to invite you to sign up. We have many positions that need to be filled, most of which offer up-close viewing of the action.

A sample of positions available include*:

  • Course Set Up

Work with the organizer the day before the event to set up the roads. Stake, arrow, put up banner tape, set up spectator areas. This is a chance to drive the roads before the competitors get to see them. No experience needed. An offroad-capable car is a must for this position.

  • Registration

Here's your chance to meet the drivers and co-drivers, their crew members, and the rest of the rally community. This happens the night before the event. No experience needed.

  • Tech Inspection

All the cars undergo a close inspection just before the event to make sure they are safe and legal according to the rules. Volunteer tech inspectors should have a good working knowledge of car mechanics. This is your chance to see the cars up close! This happens the night before the event.

  • Stage Controls

Control personnel log the cars in and out of a stage. Start controls log a car's arrival time, update the car's timecard, and then get to watch the countdown and launch as the cars start the stage. Finish controls time the cars as they cross the finish line, and update the car's timecard accordingly. In addition, the controls make sure that only authorized vehicles and personnel are allowed into the stage area. Get to see the rally cars up close, and interact with the co-drivers to make sure the timecards are correct. No experience necessary.

  • Road Marshall

Road Marshalls are placed along the course guarding an intersection. Their primary purpose is to prevent unauthorized traffic from entering the course, but in doing so they get the best seat in the house! No experience in necessary, but a ham license is a plus.

  • Sweep

Sweeps follow the action and assist disabled cars. This is ideal for truck-owners, as sweep vehicles should be capable of handling towing and/or extraction of stuck vehicles. No experience is necessary, but a ham license is a plus.

  • Service Area Crew

There are a number of roles available here. Time Control personnel check the cars in and out of the service area. Marshalls make sure that safety and trash requirements are met, and may be asked to relay messages to the crews as needed. No experience needed.

  • Scoring

Scoring personnel park at stage finishes and work with the finish control personnel to relay scores back to main scoring. A ham license is required.

  • Spectator Marshall

Spectator Marshalls are responsible for making sure that spectators park clear of the course and that they stay out of harm's way. Spectator Marshalls may also double as Road Marshalls.

* Thanks to the Oregon Trail Rally organizers for assisting with the job descriptions for this list.
